Lawson Robb Completes Bespoke Private Office on Mansfield Street

We’re excited to share a recent private office project on Mansfield Street in London.

At the heart of the brief was a question around how a contemporary business space is actually used. A formal boardroom was an important requirement, but the reality is that much of business happens outside the traditional meeting format; through conversation, hospitality and the time spent together around it.

We therefore wanted to create a space that could perform as a highly functional boardroom when required, while for the majority of the time feeling much more like a private hospitality environment: somewhere to meet, host, spend time and enjoy being together.

The room was designed to move easily between these different modes. It can operate as a formal boardroom, become a relaxed lounge where guests can gather socially or break away into more intimate groups, and transform into an events space supported by a fully functioning bar and catering facilities.

Flexibility was therefore fundamental to the design, but we were conscious that a flexible space should not require constant reconfiguration to work successfully. Rather than designing for numerous individual layouts, we developed two principal configurations capable of accommodating multiple use cases and different guest capacities. Modular and moveable furniture allows the room to transform when necessary, while careful furniture planning means that each arrangement can perform several functions without needing to be continually reset.

This thinking informed the design throughout. We wanted to create a sense of warmth, texture and character while keeping the interior refined, practical and appropriate to its Mansfield Street setting.

We also worked with Edward Johnson Furniture to create a bespoke multi-functional table which became central to the room’s adaptability. The brief was to create something genuinely versatile without compromising its detailing or material integrity. The resulting piece can be reconfigured for different uses, with the veneer aligning seamlessly however the table is arranged, a small but important example of the level of consideration applied throughout the project.

Together, these elements create an office that balances the formality and functionality expected of a boardroom with the warmth and sociability of a private lounge. It is a space designed not simply around meetings, but around the broader way relationships and business are conducted.
