Lawson Robb has featured on Prime Resi in their article which describes the interior design team’s work at the landmark Chelsea Barracks development.
“A year after the Chelsea Barracks site opened to the public for the first time in 150 years, Qatari Diar has opened the doors to one of the super-prime scheme’s marquee apartments. The 12.8-acre £3.5bn development is arranged around seven new garden squares (which occupy some 40% of the site), delivering a mix of apartments and townhouse residences in SW1W.
This five-bedroom 6,050 sq ft apartment, which occupies the entire fifth floor of 1 Mulberry Square, has been called the “Singer Suite”, after celebrated Porsche engineer Norbert Singer. Designing sports cars in the 1970s, Singer espoused the idea that “everything is important”, taking a holistic approach to making fast cars that won a lot of trophies and admirers.
Interior design firm Lawson Robb was brought in to “transform a show residence into a home”, with a brief to target “a fictitious business-oriented couple with discerning taste”. Herr Singer’s ethos and design at Porsche have inspired the work.
LB describes the finished interior as “precise yet eclectic”, with “a layered, contemporary and sophisticated composition of finishes and textures, creating a tailored environment that acknowledges the heritage of the site, whilst embracing the future of London luxury living.”
An earthy colour palette, including petrol blue, burgundy and bronze, has been picked to “create a serene and calm environment”, while a custom-made “woody scent” fills the rooms. Bespoke joinery, abstract rugs and modern pendant lighting, meanwhile, “pay homage to British and European mid-century design and the retro-modern features of vintage Porsche cars.”
Beyond the entrance, LB has put home entertaining at the heart of the apartment, installing both a service kitchen and an “informal, multi-functional kitchen living space” for sundry soirees and day-to-day lounging. A formal dining room features a hexagonal table that has been inlaid with bronze-tinted glass to allow guests to view the abstract rug underneath “as a piece of art while sitting at the table”.
Eva Leone, Studio Director at Lawson Robb: “It is an honour to have had the opportunity to work with Qatari Diar and be part of transforming such a historic site. Chelsea Barracks is one of the most iconic residential schemes in London and Lawson Robb are proud to be delivering this exquisite, forward- thinking meticulously designed apartment. Apart from the furniture, lighting, artwork and accessories, we have worked well with the existing base build by adding layers of detail and a complementary colour scheme to add personality to the apartment. The finished results reflect that of a luxurious lifestyle, attention to detail and careful consideration for spaces that can accommodate family living.””
